wall games:

TCHOUKBALL*

Court

*Tchoukball has elements of Wall Games due to the use of rebounds.  Tchoukball also fits in another TGfU game category (Territory Games), which includes basketball and soccer as traditional sports.

  • Tchoukball is played on an open field with 2 rebounds (frames) at opposite ends of the court.

  • The field is 17 m x 27 m with a forbidden zone around the rebounds of a 3 m radius.

Equipment

  • 2 rebounds (frames)

  • 1 tchoukball

  • 24 pylons to mark boundaries (recommended)

  • 2 sets of pinnies (recommended)

Gameplay

  • A game consists of 3 periods of 15 minutes.

  • Two teams of 7 players each compete to score points.  When a team gains a point, control of the ball is transferred to the other team.

  • The start and restart of a game occurs behind the back line at either side of the rebound (frame).  To start the game, a coin toss determines which team has possession of the ball to pass to a teammate.  Restarts occur after each point.

  • Similar to European handball, the movement of the ball is made by throwing and catching with players’ hands.  Touching the ball with feet or legs below the knee is forbidden.

  • Players follow the Rule of Threes (see Faults) to score points on either rebounds.  There must be at least one pass past the median (27 m) made when changing from shooting at one rebound to the other.

  • When a pass is dropped or not completed (i.e. the ball touches the ground), the other team gets possession of the ball (turn-over).

  • The defending team cannot intercept the attacking team.

Scoring

  • Teams can score at either side of the court.

  • A point is scored by the attacking team when the ball rebounds after hitting either of the 2 frames and touches:

    • the ground outside the forbidden zone

    • any part of the defending player's body below the knees

    • the defending player while he is still in the forbidden zone

  • A point is given to the non-attacking team when:

    • the attacking team shoots and misses the frame

    • the ball rebounds outside the playing area (i.e., out of the court, or in the forbidden zone)

  • If a shot is caught by the defending team, the defending team can proceed to attack immediately.

Faults

The Rule of Threes

  • A player takes more than 3 steps while holding the ball (traveling).

  • A player holds the ball for more than 3 seconds.

  • A team makes more than 3 consecutive passes (the entry pass when play restarts after a point scored is not counted, deflection of the ball from one player to another is considered a pass).

  • More than 3 consecutive shots are taken at the same frame, by either team or a combination of both teams.
