net games:
SPEEDMINTON*
Court
*Although typically played without a net, Speedminton is included in this games category because it shares similar tactics to other Net Games.
-
Instead of a net dividing two courts, there is a large space (42 feet) between the opponents’ courts.
-
Court sizes can be modified in any open space.
Equipment
-
Speedminton racquet
-
Speeder
-
12 pylons (or tape) to mark boundaries
Gameplay
-
Speedminton (speed badminton or crossminton) is played as singles or doubles.
-
Players stand in their square to:
-
Prevent the speeder from landing in their court
-
Hit the speeder into the opponent’s court
-
-
A coin toss determines which player serves first.
-
Players will alternate serving after every 3 serves. If the score is tied at 15:15, service alternates after each point.
-
The server may choose to (underhand) serve from the centre of the court, or to (underhand or overhead) serve behind the base line.
-
Players switch sides after each game. In a tiebreak game, players switch sides when someone reaches 8 points.
-
In doubles:
-
Team designate an attack player (front half of court) and a back court player to stand in position before the serve.Players may move anywhere after the serve.
-
The initial back court player serves first to the opponent’s back court player.
-
The order of serve is the initial back court player, the initial back court receiver, the initial back court player’s partner, the opponent’s initial attack player, etc.
-
Scoring
-
Games are played until 16 points, with a win by 2 points.
-
Matches are best 3 of 5 games.
-
Each serve counts as a point (rally points).
-
Points are awarded when there is a:
-
Service fault (see below)
-
